Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk visited firefighters in the village of Glucholazy in the south of the country, where torrential rain is threatening the region with the worst flooding in decades, as storm Boris passes through.

Since Thursday, swathes of Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia have been hit by high winds and unusually fierce rains.

In the town of Glucholazy in Poland'ssouthwestern Opole region, which lies near the Czech border, firefights piled sandbags along the BialaGlucholaska river and residents were evacuated.Officials in neighboring Slovakia also warned of flooding in the capital, Bratislava. Hungary expects the Danube to reach near record-high levels in the coming days.
