The final Sepak Takraw competition and prize awarding ceremony of Chief of Myanmar Police Force Shield took place at Aung San Stadium in Yangon on Sunday.
This is the 2nd Sepak Takraw Competition organized by Myanmar Police Force. It was held for 5 consecutive days from the 29th of May to the 2nd of June with the aims to improve policemen’s health and fitness, sports spirit, empathy, compassion and integrity and to maintain the good discipline.
Police Colonel, Yangon Region Police Force, Yu Naing said “This kind of competition builds up health and fitness level of the police, their allegiance, patience, skillfulness and also serves as a breeding ground for international sepak takraw players. Yangon Region Police Force won the Chief of Myanmar Police Force Shield last year and they took the shield home this year as well. There are plans to provide more trainings and time for players to improve their skills in the next years.”
A total of 37 teams comprised of 203 policemen and 36 policewomen from region and state police forces and training schools participated in the competition. 10 awards; first, second and third prizes for each category of the competition; 2-player (man), 3-player (man), 3-player (woman) and also Chief of Myanmar Police Force Shield were presented. This year’s Chief of Myanmar Police Force Shield was taken by Yangon Region Police Force.
Policeman, Yangon Region Police Force, Naing Lin Ko said “Yangon Region Police Force won first prizes in all categories – 2-player (man), 3-player (man) and 3-player (woman) – I’m really happy. We trained the whole year round to be able to win this shield. Sepak takraw is good for health. I participated in last year competition and our team won first place too.”
Such a competition like this one is planned to be held annually. Myanmar Police Force also plans to send off the outstanding players to compete in international competition. 11 Southeast Asian level sepak takraw players have been scouted from Myanmar Police Force so far.
