The leader of the Leading Committee for Farmers Rights, Protection and Interests Promotion, vice president U Henry Van Thio addressed the plenary session of the committee held at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday.
In his address, the leader of the leading committee vice president U Henry Van Thio said that The Rice Market and Price Assessment and Advising Working Committee was formed and assigned the task of suggesting a base price for rice after taking the actual production costs of crops into consideration and announced the basic reference price of rice for 2019-2020 fiscal year.
This plenary session of the leading committee is held to discuss the implementation of the announcement and carry out the tasks for the development of sugar, fishries and prawn sectors.The leading committee sought the approval of the union government and announced the basic reference price for rice as a half million kyats for 100 basket of rice on 15th October, 2019.
The aim of the announcement is to purchase the rice with the fair price for the interest of the farmers. If the market price is above the floor price, then purchases may be made at the market price. If the market price is below the floor price, then purchases should be made with the floor price.
The vice president also gave the necessary guidelines for the development of sugar sector and fishery sector, National Residue Monitoring Plan, rural development projects aiming at the poverty alleviation, agricultural sector and natural disasters. Next, the secretary of the leading committee for Farmers Rights, Protection and Interests Promotion and union minister for agriculture, livestock and irrigation Dr. Aung Thu clarified the implementation for the Farmers Rights, Protection and Interests Promotion and works to be done.

Afterward, the secretary of leading committee, union minister Dr. Aung Thu elaborated regarding with the discussions and clarified the plans for implementation and points to be decided. After reviewing and coordinating the discussions, the leader of the leading committee for Farmers Rights, Protection and Interests Promotion and vice president gave a speech of conclusion.
