A play in Lagos commemorated the beginning of the UN's 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence on Friday.

The 30-year-old annual international campaign began on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until December 10, Human Rights Day.

Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation with an estimated 200 million people, has always publicised issues around gender-based violence. For the United Nations, stopping this violence starts with believing survivors, adopting comprehensive and inclusive approaches that tackle the root causes, transforming harmful social norms, and empowering women and girls.
