Plastic cups a bone of contention at Belgium's Tomorrowland festival

The Tomorrow land festival will be offering its 400,000 festival-goers single-use plastic cups although a ban. By refusing to comply with legislation in force since 2023, the festival risks a fine of €2 million, even though an exemption was granted last year.

For large festivals, drinks must be served in reusable cups. The festival explained that it still had 3 million single-use cups in stock, and wanted to use them before switching to an eco-friendly formula. These explanations did not convince the local waste management office or the festivalgoers. The festival also sets up a drug testing lab on its site.
