Petro requests Colombia's admission to BRICS' New Development Bank

Colombian President Gustavo Petro said he has "asked to join the BRICS development bank," which brings together emerging economies, just days after joining China's mega Silk Road project. 

"What Colombia needs to do is be present in all multilateral banks around the world, without exception," said Petro during a trip to China. Petro signed an agreement to join the multibillion-dollar program with which his counterpart Xi Jinping aims to expand China's economic and political influence.
