Petro appoints military general as Colombia's new defense minister

Colombian President Gustavo Petro appointed General Pedro Sanchez as the new Minister of Defense.

Sanchez is the leader of the operation to rescue the four Indigenous children lost for 40 days in the Amazon jungle in 2023. He is the first military officer to head the portfolio since 2009 in a country that has been through half a century of armed conflict.
