Peruvian army destroys seized live ammunition

The Peruvian ammunition, explosives and firearms authorities on Thursday burnt dozens of thousands of cartridges of seized live ammunition, part of a larger campaign in which nearly 340,000 have also been destroyed. Two special ovens were installed at a shooting range inside a military facility.

The live ammunition destroyed was part of years of military-grade material seized that over time could be defective, meaning authorities can't use and instead need to destroy. It is the first time Peruvian authorities have reported on destroying firearms, and it is part of a campaign of the Peruvian army with the US Department of State and the British NGO Mines Advisory Group.
