Peru's new interim president Jose Maria Balcazar appointed economist Denisse Miralles as the prime minister on Tuesday.

Miralles served as economy minister under Balcazar's ousted predecessor Jose Jeri and was sworn into office at the Government Palace in the capital Lima. Six other ministers from the previous government were confirmed to their posts as well. The president's office said in a statement that Peru requires firm economic management, a head-on fight against organized crime and the preservation of the stability that Peru needs.
