Peruvian President Pedro Castillo reshuffled his cabinet on Wednesday after the ousting of the country's defense minister over a military promotions scandal. In Juan Carrasco, Castillo swore in as the new defense minister replacing Walter Ayala who resigned last week over allegations that he was pushing his own picks for promotion in both the army and the air force.

The heads of both branches of the military had denounced Ayala's efforts after they were relieved of their duties. In Castillo's second new appointment, Jorge Prado became production and fisheries minister.
