Neary two hundred Peruvian soldiers arrived on Friday in the Tacna border region with Chile, following an order from President Dina Boluarte to aid with migration controls. Jorge Chavez, Defense Minister of Peru said the officers are to prevent migrants from entering "through unsuitable zones."

The mostly-Venezuelan migrants are seeking to cross into Peru to continue on to their home country but Peru isn’t allowing them to enter because they lack documents.Officials in Arica, the northern Chilean city that borders Peru and is around 2,000 kilometers from the capital of Santiago, declared a migration emergency Thursday.

The Chilean Undersecretary of the Interior said officials from both countries are trying to "control the crisis" and create a "humanitarian corridor".
