Peru court accepts lawsuit against Facebook

A judge in Peru admitted a plaintiff's lawsuit against Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg after his account on the social media site was suspended after sharing unverified news. Juan Mejia shared a news story in 2021 about the coronavirus.

Mejia, himself a lawyer, says Facebook "violated his right to freedom of expression" when it blocked his account for 45 days without giving him chance to contest. He is seeking $300,000 in compensation. When accepting the case, Judge Lila Fuentes requested Zuckerberg appear virtually at the court hearing on June 17.
