Peruvian authorities say they discovered 15 gravesites in a cemetery that appears to be the resting place of elite individuals from the Incan period.

The gravesites discovered in the northern Peruvian town of Lambayeque were buried alongside a variety of pottery. The research project director says they can be identified as elite individuals because the burials follow the same pattern as that of a previously identified ruler known as the Lord of Tucume. The director also said archeologists have now uncovered the burial sites of 44 individuals at Huaca Las Abejas, one of the 26 pyramids in the southeast region of the archaeological complex at Tucume.
