People in Romania try to stay cool as the country battles temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius.

Authorities issued a red warning alert for the southeastern part of the country, including capital Bucharest, for the first time this year.

Maximum temperatures of 40 to 42 degrees Celsius are also expected on Wednesday.
