Peace is inscribed in the Olympic DNA, says Italian president

The Olympic flame torch relay celebration cauldron is lit by Italian president Sergio Mattarella during a ceremony held in Piazza del Quirinale on Friday, with  International Olympic Committee President and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

. Kirsty Coventry, IOC President said "The flame symbolizes the true spirit of the Olympic Games, one that can only flourish when every eligible athlete, team, and official can take part without any discrimination. The Olympic Games exist to bring people together, to break down the walls that divide us, and to inspire the hopes of the next generation."

During the ceremony, Italian President Mattarella said peace is inscribed in the Olympic DNA.
