Parliamentary elections take place in Benin

Beninese citizens went to the polls on Sunday to elect the country's deputies.

Over 6 million Beninese are voting to elect 109 deputies, including at least 24 women, because of affirmative action to represent the people in parliament. The opposition group 'The Democrats' have been allowed to participate in the vote for the very first time by the government of President Patrice Talon. After fifteen days of smooth campaigning, all observers are waiting for the results of the election.
