Panel Discussion on Disaster Management: MSWRR UM gave opening speech at Panel Discussion

Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Soe Win gave an opening speech at a Panel Discussion on Disaster Management held at the Nationalities Youth Resource Development Degree College (Yangon) in the morning on September as a plenary campaign commemorating the  International Day for Disaster Reduction 2024.

Speaking on the event, the Union Minister said that due to severe and intense weather events, natural disasters are occurring, causing damages and losses across different countries. Developing countries, in particular, are experiencing the most impact from these natural hazards.

Efforts are being made not only at the individual country level but also through collective international cooperation to reduce the risks and damages caused by these disasters. In managing natural disasters, it is also crucial for each citizen to participate and have knowledge about disaster risks.

Only with individual awareness and understanding of natural disasters, people can protect their lives, homes, and assets. It is believed that when each person is knowledgeable about natural disasters, the overall damage and losses at the national level can be reduced.

As the participation of the next generation in the process of natural disasters risks deduction with their full strength is crucial, the  International Day for Disaster Reduction 2024 will be observed with the motto “Empowering the next generation for a resilient future”.

The Panel Discussion on Disaster Risks Management was attended by a total of 250 participants including the principal, faculty members, students and staffs of the Nationalities Youth Resource Development Degree College (Yangon).Next, the Union Minister and officials visited Training School for Girls (Malikha) in Mayangone Township of Yangon Region, heard the clarification of the principal and viewed the sports trainings and vocational trainings.

In the afternoon, the Union Minister visited vocational Training Center in Bahan Township, heard the clarification of the principal, gave necessary instruction and inspected facilities of the school.After that, the Union Minister cordially greeted the women from the One Stop Women Support Center-OSWSC which is giving the Services for the girls under trial and victims of violence and gave words of encouragement to the staffs.
