Panama eased some coronavirus-imposed restrictions on Monday. The government started the economic reopening in mid-May and continued with their scheduled plan for June 1. The President of Panama administration said that the staged reopening will prevent the economic collapse of the country of 4.2 million people.

On Monday morning, significantly more people were noticeably moving on the streets and public transportation in the capital, but a curfew is still in effect between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sports activities and religious worship were allowed starting Monday setting a limit of 25% capacity at the venues. Many citizens feared the relaxation could lead to an outbreak of the pandemic as the number of infections continued to rise. As of Monday, the country reported more than 13,000 COVID-19 cases and 344 deaths.
