Pakistanis race for border as Indian deadline passes

Following last week’s deadly attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir, New Delhi made decision to order almost all Pakistani citizens to leave the country.

The deadline for Pakistani citizens to leave the country with exceptions for those who are on medical visas in India passed on Sunday. Pakistani nationals holding short-term visas began leaving India in increased numbers.

According to the Union Government’s directive, all categories of visas issued to Pakistani citizens, except for long-term, diplomatic, and official visas, were revoked with immediate effect from April 27. While short-term visas expired on Sunday, medical visas were extended until April 29 to allow for patient exits.
