Paddy Seed Production: Government-Private sector meeting held

A government-private sector discussion on the development of paddy seed production operations and the establishment of Export Zones was held on January 5 at the meeting hall of the Union Minister’s meeting hall of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation, Nay Pyi Taw.

At the meeting, Union Minister U Min Naung delivered the opening address. He stated that in implementing the State's objectives and economic aspirations, producing high-quality rice with export market demand is a key component, and this discussion is aimed at seeking collective support and contributions from all involved.

He emphasized that it is necessary to enhance the paddy sector by expanding the production and export of exportable goods that are suitable for the country's water, land, and climate, and have potential for greater export to foreign markets, through the development of paddy seed production operations and the establishment of Export Zones.

The Union Minister stressed that for the successful implementation of Export Zones in the selected locations, it is crucial for the departments and organizations collaborating on the project to meticulously supervise and systematically adhere to the sector-specific tasks. He encouraged everyone, based on their respective duties, to provide expert perspectives from various angles during the discussion to find solutions for the successful implementation of Export Zones.

During the meeting, the Permanent Secretary, responsible officials from the Department of Agriculture, the Chairman of the Myanmar Rice Federation, representatives from relevant associations, seed production entrepreneurs, and leading seed-producing farmers presented and discussed sector-specific issues for the development of paddy seed production operations and the establishment of Export Zones, it’s learnt.
