Plans are underway to ensure that the workers receive proper compensation they deserved through the relevant agents if the workers faced accidents at overseas workplaces.

The Ministry of Labour urged the Licensed overseas employment agencies to strictly follow the rules and restrictions.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labor, Nyunt Win, said " Having the right to claim compensations through relevant agents means requesting the compensation to the relevant insurance companies through licensed agencies. Just as the workers have to make the insurance premium payment in their own country, the Myanmar workers under MOU system will have to pay the insurance fee in other foreign country such as Thailand."

There are 2 types of insurance system: private and Social Security Board (SSB) insurance. For those who make both types of insurance premium payment could get the proper compensations from both.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labor, Nyunt Win, said " For those who go to Thailand to work in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and etc., can face accidents on the way that could claimed their lives or injured.  If this happens, the agency will request compensation from the relevant insurance company as well as Myanmar officials from Thai Labor office and Myanmar Embassy to Thailand will provide assistance as soon as possible."

By signing the MoU, Myanmar migrant workers could enjoy full labor rights. It also supports better and smoother trade and financial cooperation for the nation.
