Over 235 migrants rescued off Libya coast

The French medical charity Doctors Without Borders, MSF rescue 237 migrants on their chartered rescue vessel in waters of the Libyan coast. The Geo Barents ship was sailing in the Mediterranean Sea, north of the country's capital Tripoli according to MSF. The ship later encountered other overcrowded rubber dinghies with dozens of migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea.

The ship then sailed towards the northern Italian port of La Spezia. Italy's Interior Minister has maintained the NGO-chartered ships are seaworthy and can sail for days. According to the ministry, having NGO ships so close to the migrants departure points on the Libyan shores is a pull factor for more migrants taking to the sea on rubber boats.
