Osaka, Yekaterinburg, Baku jostle for 2025 World Expo prize

23 November 2018

The wait will be over for Japan, Russia and Azerbaijan on Friday as the international committee that chooses World Expo hosts announces its pick for 2025. The 170 member states will vote at a general assembly in Paris after a final presentation from Japan's Osaka, Russia's Yekaterinburg and the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku.

As part of the bidding process each country picks a theme and the host cities are visited by a mission of enquiry which evaluates them for feasibility, social climate and the degree of political support for the project. Dubai will be the next city to host a World Expo in 2020. The 2025 edition will be held from May to November 2025.
