Order No. (2/2026) : NDSC granted amnesty and reduction of sentence

The National Defense and Security Council issued Order No. (2/2026) dated January 4.

The full text of the order (Amnesty and Reduction of Sentence Order) is stated that the Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, in commemoration of the 78th Anniversary Independence Day, which falls on January 4, 2026 to bring peace of mind to the public; and out of humanitarian considerations, hereby grants amnesty to 6,134 prisoners included male and female serving sentences in prisons/lockups/camps. Under Section 401, Sub-section (1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, and on the condition that if they reoffend, they will have to serve not only the new sentence but also the remaining portion of the current sentence, their remaining sentences are commuted.
