The National Defence and Security Council issued Order No. (1/2026) dated January 4.
The full order is (Amnesty Order) is stated that the Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, in commemoration of the 78th Anniversary Independence Day falling on January 4, 2026, to soothe the hearts and minds of the public, and with social consideration, and to foster understanding of the State's compassion and goodwill, hereby pardons prisoners including both male and female—who have been sentenced and are serving their terms in prisons, lockups, or camps for offenses under any existing law, except for murder, rape, offenses under the Explosive Substances Act, offenses under the Unlawful Associations Act, offenses under Section 19(f) of the Arms Act 1878, offenses under the Arms (Emergency Provisions) Act 1949, offenses under the Arms (Temporary Amendment) Act 1951, laws under the Shan State Arms Order 1924, offenses under the Arms Law 2023, offenses under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, offenses under the Natural Disaster Management Law, offenses under the Counter-Terrorism Law, and offenses under the Anti-Corruption Law. Under Section 401, Sub-section (1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, one-sixth of their remaining sentence is remitted. The order is signed by Aung Lin Dway (Executive Chief).
