Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) candidate Mansur Yavas formally received his mandate as new mayor of Ankara on Monday.
Yavas was also the CHP's candidate in 2014, but lost in a vote marred by claims of voter fraud. Speaking to reporters after receiving his mandate, the new mayor of Ankara pledged to cherish all residents of Ankara and try to render service to everybody equally. Erdogan's AK Party has already lost the mayoralty in the capital Ankara to the main opposition Republican People's Party, and has appealed several stages of the count in Istanbul which showed a narrow CHP victory.
