






The opening ceremony for the 2026–2027 school enrollment week was held on Monday morning at Basic Education High School No. (2), in Latha Township, Kyauktada District, Yangon Region. Yangon Region Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu officially opened the school enrollment week signboard by pressing a ceremonial button, it’s learnt.
After the ceremony, the Director (Education) from the Yangon Region Education Office explained the new developments for the 2026–2027 academic year.
Daw San San Win, Director (Education), Yangon Region Education Office said “This year, in order to help students gain basic knowledge in industrial, agricultural, and livestock subjects, there is a plan to teach these subjects once a week starting from Grade 6. Another special program this year is for children who are currently out of school or far from schools under various circumstances. A placement test will be conducted from June 15 to June 20 so that these children can return to school.”
The government will provide free support of one school uniform, one dozen exercise books, a full set of textbooks for primary school students and four pencils and a full set of textbooks, one dozen exercise books, two pencils, and two ballpoint pens for middle school and high school students.
Students who had enrolled in school were also seen to be happy and enthusiastic.
Aye Myat May, Grade-11 Student said " Mingalarbar! My name of Aye Myat May. I’, Grade-11 students studying in this Basic Education High School No. (2). We are here to enroll for this Academic Year. We are very happy to study here in our school. When we enroll, we each receive a full set of textbooks, one dozen exercise books, two pencils, and two ballpoint pens free of charge."
Yangon Region has a total of 2,717 basic education schools, and last year there were more than 1,070,000 students. This year, the estimated target enrollment is around 1.2 million students, according to the official.
