US tech giant OpenAI unveiled a new tool called “Deep Research” for its popular ChatGPT platform, designed to generate detailed reports by conducting in-depth research. The announcement was made at a press event in Tokyo, where OpenAI CEO Sam Altman also revealed a new partnership with Japanese tech investor SoftBank Group to provide advanced AI services to businesses.

Sam Altman, OpenAI chief said "It's different than ChatGPT, where you instantly get a response. Here you start off a task, like you might give a task to a sophisticated co-worker, and Deep Research goes off, thinks through it, gathers insights, gets it together, finds sources, and gets you a report."

The move comes as competition in the AI space intensifies, with China's DeepSeek chatbot gaining traction and challenging OpenAI’s dominance. Deep Research aims to elevate AI-assisted workflows, offering businesses a tool for deeper analysis and reporting
