One of the annual tournaments of Myanmar Tennis Federation, Myanmar Open Tennis Tournament 2019 successfully concluded on Monday at Thein Phyu Tennis Court in Yangon.
In order to turn out new outstanding players, to help the players get more experiences of competition and to boost tennis sport among the citizens, Myanmar Tennis Federation organizes National Championship, Open Tennis Tournament and other matches annually.
President, Myanmar Tennis Federation, Than Lwin said “National Championship and Myanmar Open Tournament are the two major tournaments of our federation. These tournaments are also to reveal the ranking of the top tennis players. Through this tournament, about 4 or 5 players will be selected to camp for national selection.”
About 70 players from across the country participated in 11 categories from Under 12 Boy Single to Open Class and above 45 Man Double Class in this tournament. Tennis accessories and trophy were presented to the first and second winners from each category.
Player, Han Thu Thu Htet said “I started to play tennis when I was 12 and I always compete in every tournament. For this tournament, I trained twice a week. I won the two first prizes in U-14 Woman Single and U-16 Woman Single Class. I’ve competed in Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam matches.”
Player, Myu Pai Min said “I started to play tennis when I was 13. I competed in Open Man Single and Open Man Double Classes in this tournament and was crowned champion in the Open Man Single Class - I am very happy. I always join every tournament and I also competed in China last year as a national representative player.”
According to the President of Myanmar Tennis Federation, Myanmar C.P Cup and Yangon Mayor’s Cup will be held in the near future at Thein Phyu Tennis Court.
