Starting from the mid August, onions are being exported directly to China and Viet Nam and onion market is in good demand in local. Due to high prices in the market, the growers cultivate the onions earlier as well as the number of onion growers have increased.

During the month of August, India has increased taxation rate in onion export but some foreign countries ordered large amount of Myanmar onions.

Chairman,Khin Han ,Onion, Garlic & Veg Produces’ & Exporter Association said " The onions are mostly transported to the buyers of China and Viet Nam. The onion was priced at about 3,200 to 3,300 kyats per viss in the market last month and in Yangon, one viss of onion was up to 3,400 to 3,500 kyats. Now, onion price has decreased about 300 to 400 kyats per viss according to their sizes."

At present, the onion demand from abroad has decreased a little bit and about 12 trucks carrying about 10,000 visses enter regularly to the Bayint Naung Warehouse in Yangon.

Chairman ,Khin Han ,Onion, Garlic & Veg Produces’ & Exporter Association said " Monywa mostly transports onions to our warehouse and we have to sell these onions before November because the onions that have been cultivated in monsoon season will produce. This year, the growers plant the onions than previous year. "

In coming November, the monsoon onions will produce regularly and due to high demand in foreign markets and good prices, the onion growers have increased in local and they grow the onions earlier than before.
