A zoo in the United Kingdom has announced the birth of one of the world's rarest deer. The little fawn, called Lyra, is a Philippine spotted deer, also known as a Visayan spotted deer.

Lyra weighed just three kilograms at birth and made her debut in February. The birth is part of Chester Zoo's conservation breeding programme, which was set up at the request of the Philippine government. There are believed to be only about 700 Philippine spotted deer living in the wild. Chester Zoo had been working with partners in the Philippines for more than two decades to help save the species from extinction.
