One killed in Sindirgi Earthquake

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck Balikesir of Turkiye on the evening of August 10, with its epicenter in the Sindirgi district. The tremor was felt across nearby regions, including Balikesir, Izmir, Manisa, and Istanbul. In Sindirgi, six people were rescued from the rubble of a collapsed building and hospitalized, while one person died despite rescue efforts.

Authorities reported that 16 buildings, including 12 abandoned structures, were destroyed. Of the 29 people injured, 18 have been discharged, and the rest are in stable condition. Emergency teams continued damage assessments and aftershock monitoring in the affected areas. Residents were urged to remain cautious due to the risk of further collapses. The earthquake left parts of the region grappling with disrupted infrastructure and ongoing recovery efforts.
