One killed, dozens injured, as quake hits western Turkiye

A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Sindirgi in western Turkiye on Sunday, killing at least one person and injuring dozens more, according to the Turkish disaster management agency (AFAD). The tremor was felt in several western cities, including Istanbul and Izmir.

Authorities reported 16 collapsed buildings in 68 rural neighborhoods, of which 12 were abandoned and four were inhabited but evacuated before the collapse. Search and rescue teams saved four people from the rubble, while officials confirmed that none of the injured are in serious condition.
