Storm Leonardo has been battering the Iberian Peninsula region that's most associated with the countries of Spain and Portugal, killing at least one person, who was swept away by the current in the municipality of Serpa after trying to cross a flooded area.

Over the border, Spanish weather agency placed parts of the southern region of Andalusia under the highest red alert for the extraordinary rain dumped by Storm Leonardo, warning of floods and landslides. Around 3,500 people had been evacuated in Andalusia and almost all suburban, regional and long-distance trains were cancelled across Andalusia, due to the state of the roads, dozens of which were closed.
