In Kayin State, the cultivation of oil crops will be accelerated and expanded to achieve sufficiency in oil sector.

Currently, the oil self-sufficiency rate is only about 70% and challenges such as labor, investment and markets must be solved in order to achieve self-sufficiency beyond 100%.

Preparations are being made to provide loans from the 8 billion kyats of the country’s economic promotion fund for edible oil crops cultivation in addition to rice. Arrangements have already been made to supply grains for the timely cultivation.

The cultivation of beans, sunflowers, sesame and soybean will be expanded in a high speed. The oil sufficiency level in the region will be supplemented after the complete harvesting and production.

Participants must cooperate from production to market development in order to ensure oil sufficiency and produce edible oil crops in the state.
