Investigations are continuing in Cambodia into the death this week of an 11-year-old girl infected with bird flu. On Saturday, local health officials and staff and representatives from the World Health Organisation visited the affected village in the southeastern province of Prey Veng, while workers continued to clear-up the area adjacent to the deceased girl’s home.
Health Ministry spokesperson Ly Sovann told that a team of health officials would stay on site for the next ten days to monitor the health of the residents and of their poultry. The girl died Wednesday at a hospital in the capital, Phnom Penh, shortly after tests confirmed she had Type A H5N1 bird flu.
