Investigations are continuing in Cambodia into the death this week of an 11-year-old girl infected with bird flu. On Saturday, local health officials and representatives from the World Health Organization visited the affected village in the southeastern province of Prey Veng, while workers continued to clear-up the area adjacent to the deceased girl’s home.

The girl died Wednesday at a hospital in the capital, Phnom Penh, shortly after tests confirmed she had Type A H5N1 bird flu. The girl's father tested positive for the virus but has so far not displayed any major symptoms. Bird flu, also known as avian influenza, normally spreads between sick poultry but can sometimes spread from poultry to humans.
