Offering Lantern: Pa-O Traditional Handmade Lantern Occasion At Shwedagon Pagoda

The Pa-O traditional handmade lantern occasion was celebrated on Saturday evening at Shwedagon Pagoda.

It was the 3rd edition of lantern occasion and paying homage to the Lord Buddha ceremony organized by PA-O National Literature & Culture Association. Minister for Pa-O Ethnic Affairs attended the occasion - around 350 Pa-O people participated in the occasion and offered the lotus-shaped lanterns to the Lord Buddha.

Chairperson, PA-O National Literature & Culture Association, Nang Nyunt May said “Preparations for this occasion took a month. The occasion is getting popular year after year. In the morning, we held Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony. In the evening, we celebrated the lantern occasion and offered lighting to the Shwedagon Pagoda.”

The Pa-O young people offered lotus-shaped lanterns to the Lord Buddha starting from the foot of the western stairway of Shwedagon Pagoda.

Minister, Ministry of Pa-O Ethnic Affairs (Mon State), San Wint Khine said “Today occasion was led by the youths from the Pa-O National Literature & Culture Association. It’s obvious how our young people love and try to preserve the tradition and culture. I’m really proud of them.”

Offering the handmade lotus-shaped lanterns to Buddha is a traditional way of Pa-O religious culture.
