



Various New Zealand monuments were lit purple on Saturday in honour of the King's coronation. At the intersection of King and Charles Street, many people were in full coronation mood. A cake was made for the occasion and for the revellers to enjoy.
Local Resident said "I've lived here fifty years, so, on the corner of Charles and King (street), so it's very exciting."
In the town of Rangiora north of Christchurch, people were already celebrating the coronation on Saturday.
Rangiora Town Crier said "Regardless of what you believe, what system you think we should have, our current head of state is changing and that's worth noting."
Local Resident said "I think he deserves a chance to show everyone what sort of king he can be."
Charles ascended the throne when his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died last year.Charles and Camilla's coronation is the first of a British monarch in the 21st century, and the 40th at Westminster Abbey since the coronation of William the Conqueror on 25 December 1066.
