Australia's most populous state recorded one death from COVID-19 and 1,360 new infections on Wednesday. That was the highest daily caseload since September 11.

Among the new cases in New South Wales, 25 were of the omicron variant, bringing the total number of omicron cases in the state to 110. Over 400 of the new cases were reported in the Hunter New England area, where a super spreader event took place on Wednesday at a party. New South Wales Health Minister warned of concerning projections from the University of New South Wales. But he added that number was not certain, and urged people to be vigilant against the virus.
