Nobel Prize Japan scientist

This year’s Novel Prize in Physiology or Medicine has been awarded to Sakaguchi Shimon – a Distinguished Professor at Osaka University, along with two other researchers for their discoveries about immune tolerance.

Professor Sakaguchi was seen coming out of his office at Osaka University shortly after the announcement of the Nobel Prize at around 18h30 Japan time. He is currently a Distinguished Professor at Osaka University’s immunology frontier research center.

He focused his research on finding out how immune systems end up attacking the human body, making people come down with illness. In 1995, he found a type of lymphocyte known as the “regulartory T cell” that regulates excessive immune reactions. The results of his research are expected to be applied to the advance treatment and prevention of immunity-related diseases.
