A night market was inaugurated in Sittwe on September 9th.

Under the guidance of the Rakhine State Government, the Sittwe Township Development Affairs Committee initiated the establishment of the night market at the Thanpayarthee Junction, situated at the intersection of Strand Road and Akautyon Road.

The opening ceremony was attended by Chairman of the Rakhine State Disaster Management Committee, Chief Minister U Htein Lin, the State Chief Justice, senior military officers, members of the state government, departmental personnel, town elders, representatives from social organizations, invited guests, and local residents.

An official from the State Development Affairs Committee explained the purpose of launching the night market. Following the formal opening, the Chief Minister and party toured the night market and enjoyed cultural performances.

The night market's establishment aimed to prevent the city's characteristics from being negatively affected by street vendors on major roads, provide welfare for street vendors, and meet the public's needs.

Initially, 83 shops, including restaurants, snack vendors, consumer goods stores, and other merchants, have opened, with plans for expansion based on demand.
