Newsprint Paper Mill (Thabaung): SAC Chairman attends the opening ceremony

The opening ceremony of the Newsprint Paper Mill (Thabaung), operated by the Myanmar Economic Corporation (MEC), took place on Saturday, with the presence of Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

Prior to the official inauguration of the facility, the Prime Minister received reports on the availability of raw materials, the provision of natural gas, the transition of the Thabaung Paper Mill and Newsprint Paper Mill to MEC, and the installation of machinery, presented by the Union Ministers and the Advisor to the SAC Chairman, who also serves as the MEC Chairman.

Then, the Prime Minister provided guidance on the resumption of operations at the Thabaung Paper Mill and Newsprint Paper Mill, which had been suspended for various reasons. Once operating at full capacity, the mills have the potential to produce various types of paper in addition to newsprint paper.

Emphasizing the importance of local paper production for reducing foreign currency expenditure, the government is committed to revitalizing these suspended factories and workshops to enhance local production.

The Prime Minister urged all stakeholders to work towards increased paper production. Following this, a Gas Station was inaugurated at the Thabaung Natural Gas Transmission Station.

After activating the transmission pipeline, the Prime Minister and officials observed the gas transmission process, including filtration, pressure regulation, and metering.

In the subsequent ceremony, the Newsprint Paper Mill (Thabaung) was formally opened by the Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister, the Union Minister for Industry, and the Advisor to the SAC Chairman.

The Prime Minister then unveiled the mill's signboard and presented an honorary cash award to the staff who played a pivotal role in the mill's re-operation.

Then, the Prime Minister initiated the operation process of the mill by activating the Chip Preparation Plant. The attendees later took a tour of the mill, observing into the Chip Preparation Plant, Paper Making Plant, and Finishing Section.

The attendees also made the symbolic signing of the first newsprint paper produced by the mill. As a gesture of appreciation, the Prime Minister presented fruit baskets to the foreign experts who contributed to the mill's re-operation.

After touring around the mill, the Prime Minister and party enjoyed a luncheon together with the staff from Thabaung Paper Mill and Newsprint Paper Mill.
