







Buddhist devotees across Myanmar made good deeds on Monday, the Myanmar New Year Day. In Nay Pyi Taw, locals paid homage to pagodas including Uppatasanti Pagoda and made good deeds.
The Myanmar New Year Day falls just after the Thingyan Festival which is the Myanmar New Year festival that usually occurs in middle of April. On the New Year Day, Myanmar people also visit elders and pay obeisance with a traditional offering of water in a terracotta pot and shampoo.
Young people perform hairwashing for the elderly often in the traditional manner. New Year’s resolutions are made, generally in the mending of ways and doing meritorious deeds for their karma. Releasing fish is another time-honoured tradition on this day. Many people also wash their heads with so as to leave behind all the impurities and bad omens from the past.
