Myanmar Post Office issued a new 200-Kyat postage stamp featuring the Myanmar blacksmith work together with the first post stamps collection book of 2019 on the 24th of July. This is to raise awareness among young people on the Myanmar cultural art and crafts as it is one of the ten Myanmar's cultural crafts.

Stamp Collector, Aung Ko said “I started to collect stamps in 1970. As far as I know, since 1970, 763 stamps were issued including this one. I became a stamp collector due to one of my friends. This new post stamp featuring the Myanmar blacksmith work not only shows Myanmar’s culture and history to the foreign countries but also preserves our culture. I hope that post stamps featuring Myanmar rural goods and landmarks will be issued too in the future - that will become history.”

The picture of person doing blacksmith work and the items used in the blacksmith work are included in the new post stamp.

Member, Myanmar Philatelic Society, G Latt said “There are many reasons of collecting stamps. Post stamp is one of the items issued by the Government so, it does have value. Speaking of the first post stamps collection book, such books are issued yearly in other countries. Stamp collectors also collect related things like letters and books.”

Deputy General Manager, Myanmar Post, Si Si Han said “This is to raise awareness on the Myanmar cultural art and crafts among young people. The size of the new stamp was 32 mm and 42 mm. 300,000 stamps are set to be sold – 25,000 of them are sold here in Yangon. There’s a special programme which is the first day cover and the stamping of the date on the stamps for only the first day buyers. This one features featuring the Myanmar blacksmith work – we have plans to issue more stamps featuring the rest 9 of Myanmar cultural art and crafts.”
