Myanmar Post under the Ministry of Transport and Communications issued 3 new special postage stamps worth 200 kyats each on 5th September, for the International Tiger Population Preservation Forum in commemoration of the Myanmar-Russian Tiger Population Preservation.
The purpose of this forum is to preserve the tiger population and it has planned to double the tiger population since 2020. The forests, the habitat of tigers have become dwelling by people with factories and projects, and there is no place for tiger to live, according to the stamp collector.
Aung Ko, Philatelist said "I have been collecting the postage stamps since 1970s. When I collected every postage stamp, I bought about 30 items of each because I want to share them with my friends abroad. Collecting the stamps is like gathering the history and geography. Our country does not have yet stamps issued with the image of wild animals. This stamp is the first feature of wildlife. Tiger is one of the most extinct species in the world and I’d like to do this kind of forum in future."
Before the COVID pandemic, there were a lot of seminars about stamp collecting and young people used to come. During COVID period, there are no more such events according to the secretary.
Bo Bo, Secretary, Myanmar Philatelic Society said "This is the first postage stamp with tiger image. Myanmar, Russia, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and India issue the special stamps concerning tigers conservation. As a stamp collector, we are very happy to add the tiger image stamps for the 1st time in our stamp books collection of Myanmar. On the other hand, there are few youth stamp collectors in Myanmar and we should attract young people to be more interesting in this activity. "
The special stamps are sold at the Central Post Office in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay and other post offices in each region and state on the same day, as well as the Ministry of Transport and Communications has a plan to issue new postage stamps this year.
