The electricity rate will be amended as of September, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Electric Power on August 30th.
Since electricity is essential for socio-economic development and the economic progress of the state, the ministry is upgrading existing power plants and the national grid, as well as extending and maintaining infrastructure with both local and foreign investments.
The increased cost of electricity generation for a stable supply to the public has necessitated the adjustment in rates. According to the amendment, the new electricity rates for domestic consumption, including religious buildings, will be at least 50, 100, 150, and 300 kyat per unit, respectively, while the rates for Bi-Domestic consumption including industries, businesses, lamp post, government offices, state-owned industries and businesses, river water pumping projects, municipal departments, non-governmental organizations, embassies and international organizations, will be at least 250, 400, and 500 kyat per unit.
The new rates will take effect starting September 1st.
