NATO member Finland is now using aerial drones to monitor the Baltic Sea, as the alliance takes more steps to prevent undersea cables from being damaged. The unmanned vehicle is 1.4 meters long and has a 2.8 meters wing span. A camera installed under its belly can provide real-time images.

The drone is designed to be deployed once a land-based radar detects suspicious activities offshore. NATO has been using ships and aircraft to monitor the Baltic Sea since January. The move came after undersea power lines and communication cables were severed. NATO plans to use more unmanned aerial vehicles to maintain surveillance.
