National vigil in Colombia to honour fallen soldiers

Military officials and comrades held a ceremony honouring six Colombian soldiers who died in an attack by Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) dissidents on Friday in Bogota.

The six soldiers were attacked early Tuesday morning in the rural area of the troubled department of Cauca.Seven other soldiers were wounded and are recovering in medical centres.

The vigil was held at the Monument to the Fallen Heroes, built in tribute to the military who have lost their lives in Colombia's armed conflict, which spanned more than five decades.President Gustavo Petro mourned the deaths of the young soldiers by immediately visiting the scene of the attack and observing the bodies on Tuesday.
