


The Department of Social Welfare under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement is providing cash assistance for pregnant mothers and under 2 year-old children.
The program is being carried out according to the objectives of National Social Protection Strategic Plan that has released in 2014.
In 2017-2018 fiscal year, the department started providing cash assistance to the pregnant mothers and children under 2-year of age in NaGa Self-Administrated Zone, Chin and Rakhine States. It was later expanded to Kayah, Kayin and Shan States and Ayeyawaddy Region.
Khin May Nu, Deputy Director General, Department of Social Welfare said “According to Myanmar Demographic and Health Survey that was released in 2015-2016, the program for supporting cash was implemented for pregnant mothers and under 2 year-old children from the places of difficult transportation access and less development including NaGa Self-Administrated Zone, Chin and Rakhine States starting from 2017-2018 fiscal year. Moreover, in 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 fiscal year, our department expanded supporting works in Kayah, Kayin and Shan States and Ayeyawaddy Region.
As of 2022-2023 fiscal year, more than 20 billion kyats have already provided for over 400,000 eligible persons.
The aim of this project is not only for providing cash assistance but also to provide health care services and sharing knowledge for pregnant mothers.
Khin May Nu, Deputy Director General, Department of Social Welfare said “The government provides 15,000 kyats for each beneficiary per month and the cash assistance has been issued once in three months. In 2022-2023 fiscal year, the department has already supported over 466,400 eligible persons with the cash assistance of more than 20 billion kyats. In implementing the program, our department cooperated with General Administration Departments and Township Health Departments and provided cash assistance to the beneficiaries.”
The department is also planning to carry out the pilot projects in Sagaing Region, Monand Kachin States.
